INTERNAL MEDICINE

  • Respiratory ( cough, asthma, nasal discharge)

  • Metabolic / Endocrinology Disorders
    Cushing's Syndrome (ECS)
    Equine Metabolic Syndrome (EMS)

  • Digestive tract ( colic emergency examinations and therapy)

Examination of the horse's internal organs is a vast area of equine medicine. This involves, for example, clarifying respiratory problems (coughs, nasal discharge), clarifying obesity (EMS), taking blood for Cushing's diagnosis or clarifying infectious diseases.

An important symptom of the disease in horses is colic. The horse shows signs of mild to severe colic. These can be signs of slight flaming, scratching and sweating, lying down and severe restlessness. The causes of colic in horses can be very different. The following are possible: stress, stomach problems, constipation, flatulence, diarrhea/faecal water, intestinal entanglements or intestinal displacements, tumors and many more.

In the case of colic, the horse must be examined as soon as possible. The examination of a colic patient includes the general clinical examination with rectal examination, if necessary, a nasogastric tube must be inserted and medication administered through it. In most cases, the horse must be given intravenous drugs with antispasmodic and pain-relieving effects.
